Dean sat at the counter in the local diner. His meal had been quite edible, although not the best tasting meal he'd ever had. The fries were a little too crunchy, and his deluxe cheeseburger bun was crusty and dry. He didn't care at all now, for he had pie. And this diner's pie is delicious. Sweet apple with sugary cinnamon. Crumbly graham cracker crust. It was the best pie he'd had in months and he was sure to savor every last bite.
Cutlery clinked across the diner as various patients enjoyed their own meals. Dean surveyed the dining room. Who could have done it? he wondered. I don't know, but I will find out... He was jerked out of his thoughts by a pretty brunette waitress. "Can I get you anything else?" she asked, emphasizing the 'else' suggestively. He observed her posture and noticed her hip was cocked and her chest was propped up. This is turn made him wonder if she was like this with everyone or if it was because he was fresh meat.
"I don't think so, sweetheart, but I'll let you know if I change my mind," he replied. His following smile made her melt a little behind that small counter. What am I getting myself into in this place?

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]and you can't hold me down It had been a crazy day. That was really the only way Tally could describe it, and it failed to even come close to describing the days events. From the time she'd woken up at 5 AM to right now, she had done nothing but rush around. Things had started off fairly normal but had only lasted that way for thirty minutes before she realized that there were two horses missing from the pasture. She had spent the next two hours in a panic, searching the surroundings for them and hoping they'd be okay. They were. How they'd gotten out was still a puzzle to Tally that she'd been mulling over all day. A sinking feeling in her gut told her that someone had let them out. But she'd rather not think that way.
What she needed now was some downtime. Away from the barn, away from her family, away from everything. A quiet meal at the diner would be the best. So, the blonde headed on out in her car to the diner at the edge of town. Once she got out, she could smell the food being cooked in the kitchen. The diner was often a hit and miss, but Tally liked it none the less. It was a friendly atmosphere, most days. When she walked through the door the bell rang, announcing her presence and she cringed. She hated that. It made her feel noticed, which she didn't want to be right now.
A high school kid bumbled over to her and carried a conversation with her while he led her to a booth in the back. "Sorry it's made for two." the kid said awkwardly. Tally smiled. "It's fine." She sat down in the leather seat and watched as he walked away. Then she scanned the rest of the room and looked at the people there. Some familiar faces, some not. Tally looked down at the menu, even though she already knew what she wanted. The blonde suddenly felt a bit awkward sitting at the large booth by herself. Oh, well. It was gonna be one of those days.

There was still some stuff to do when she got back home, but she didn't feel like doing it. At all. She wished that just for once she'd be able to have a little bit of downtime. But nowadays that was a rarity. So she was determined to make the best of the couple hours she had to herself here in the diner. It would be even longer if the wait staff didn't come over soon. Tally glanced around the diner and its patrons, a bit disgusted at some of the teenagers in the back. Get a room. she thought to herself. Tally shifted her gaze away from the goings on in the corner and sighed. She clicked her nails on the table absentmindedly, mulling over the menu a bit more before she heard someone slide in the table across from her.
Startled, Tally looked up to see a man she'd never seen before sitting before her. She would definitely remember this guy. He looked to be about her age, maybe a little older. And he was attractive. Very attractive. And he had a milkshake. That was always a plus. The blonde quirked her eyebrow and took the offered milkshake. After taking a sip, she smiled at the guy, who introduced himself as Dean. "Hello, back. I'm Tally." She didn't offer her last name. At least not yet. Nowadays that wasn't something she was comfortable doing because of her father being accused of murder. You know, the usual.
The young woman took another sip of the shake and grinned again. "Chocolate's my favorite. Good choice." She said, feeling happy. How often did a handsome stranger buy her a milkshake? Never. "So, Dean. Do you buy strange women milkshakes often or am I the exception? I have a feeling I'm not." Tally said, leaning back against the leather seat. She might as well start up some conversation.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]and you can't hold me down "Thanks. It's short for Tallulah. I much prefer Tally." Tally spoke again, wrinkling her nose and thinking for a moment. She didn't really mind her name that much, it was just a bit of a drag sometimes. Too fancy. She didn't feel like a Tallulah. Just Tally. That fit her much better. She swirled her straw in the milkshake a bit more, listening to him talk. So, he was flirting with her. This much was obvious. Another rare occasion. Tally hardly ever tolerated it whenever men came up and flirted with her, because most of the time they only wanted one thing and that was something Tally wasn't willing to deal with. However, Dean seemed like a pretty fun guy. She could keep this up.
"That easy to spot, huh? Guilty as charged." I wouldn't exactly call you strange. Tally had to stifle a laugh. "Oh, you don't know the half of it." She joked, raising her eyebrow. Everyone, in Tally's opinion, was strange. Some a good strange, some bad.
Tally grinned again and listened to him speak. Obviously he was a ladies man. That didn't surprise her in the slightest. Dean seemed like the kinda guy who could have what he wanted when he wanted it. She laughed at his expression. "I have to say I'm definitely a milkshake kinda gal. I've got too many teddy bears at home." She joked. Tally did have a lot of her childhood ones in a box in her closet. Plus, there were the occasional past boyfriends who had given her one. While at the time it was cute, it was always an awkward reminder of what was when they'd broken up. Into the box they went.
Tally smiled and slid the menu to the side of the table. The milkshake would fill her up. Plus, she didn't want to be eating a burger while talking to a guy who was hitting on her. Something about that just didn't sit right. It figured that as soon as she decided she didn't want something the waitress came sauntering over. But she figured it wasn't for the food. Probably her company. "Can I get y'all anything?" She asked, but she was looking at Dean. Tally rolled her eyes. Desperation wasn't a good quality in anybody. "We're good, thanks." She answered shortly for both of them, hoping the waitress would get the message.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]and you can't hold me down Tally smiled at the comment about her name. "That's what my dad says." He had always told her that, if it were his choice, her name would just be Tally, plain and simple. Tallulah was an old family name on her mothers side, and she had gotten stuck with it. Oh, well. Nothing she could do about it now.
Realizing she had mentioned her father, she took another large sip of her milkshake to make herself shut up. While Tally loved him more than anything, it wasn't the best to bring him up to random people. It seemed everyone had an opinion on the whole murder case, and she just didn't want her own life being hampered by it. While she was convinced he was innocent, not everyone saw it that way and often times didn't even want to associate with any of the Montgomery's. She sighed, then continued to listen to Dean as he talked.
He was certainly straightforward. She liked that. Honesty was a good quality to have. Why hide what you want to say to someone? The fact that he was implying he'd like to take her out in the future made her grin. Tally laughed as he raised his hand and swore not to get her a teddy bear. "Well, we'll see if you get a chance to not get me a teddy bear. So far, so good."She gave a thumbs up and chuckled again. He was certainly entertaining. If this little impromptu lunch date went well, why not go back out with him? She wasn't seeing anybody, exactly. Keeping her options open was a good thing.
Tally wasn't sure how Dean would react to the waitress. But when he told her off, she nearly choked on her milkshake laughing. "That was awesome." She laughed, watching as the waitress wandered off looking defeated. "I think we're good now. Looks like she got the picture." Tally said, still chuckling a bit.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: f9f9f9; border: #d96a70 solid 10px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;]and you can't hold me down Tally raised an eyebrow at his suggestive behavior and laughed a bit. Normally, she wouldn't handle this sort of thing very well. But Dean seemed like an easy going guy and she was comfortable around him, despite him being a total stranger. "Glad to know that you're able to do the Heimlich. That's comforting." she smirked and made note not to eat when he talked. Or they might really need to perform the Heimlich.
Tally sat back in her seat as he talked. So, he liked what what he saw. "The feeling is mutual. And you've got yourself a deal." Suddenly feeling nervous, she fiddled with her hands. Her palms got a little sweaty and she swallowed. Since he was being so honest with her, she could only come out and say what he wanted to know. But first it was his turn to speak.
She listened to him talk and tried to keep her mouth from falling open. Taylor? As in... uh oh. The guy who got murdered at the Kingston farm. But Taylor was a common last name. It didn't have to be the same. Who was she kidding? With her luck this was his cousin or brother or something and he would want nothing more to do with her. Tally felt herself blanch and tried to remain calm. She focused on what else he had to say and temporarily forgot her panic. Man, had this guy already lived quite the life. And he was a mechanic. That made sense, he looked like the type of guy who loved cars. She remembered seeing the Impala in the parking lot. It was a gorgeous car, and of course it was his.
When Dean spoke of his family, she could see how sad it made him. She frowned, sad too. Tally couldn't imagine losing anyone that close to her. Ever. She didn't think she'd be able to go on. Without thinking, she reached across the table and squeezed his hand. "I'm really sorry." she said. Then she withdrew her hand, feeling a bit awkward. She smiled when he said he liked her. So far so good. Not knowing what else to say, she paused before telling her side of things.
"Well, my full name is Tallulah Grace Montgomery." She paused. At least the hard part was done. Well, sort of. "I was born on Halloween and I'm 25 years old. I've lived here my whole life and haven't really been outside Tennessee, nothing special there. I've been riding horses since the time I could walk and they're my favorite thing in the world. Second to my family. Went to community college, got my masters in business. I manage my family's barn on the edge of town." Okay, so he should know by now just who she was. But she'd go into a bit more detail since he was so honest with her. Tally didn't want to and ordinarily wouldn't mention anything of the sort, but she owed Dean this. "Erm... my dad's the guy who... you know. Was accused of murdering the Kingston farmhand. I was kind of hoping that your last name was unrelated to his, but I'm never that lucky." Tally mumbled. What on earth would Dean say to that? She bit her lip nervously, her hands shaking. She really didn't wanna mess things up already.

Tally felt her eyes widen. This was it. Surely Dean was done with her now. He had just bought a milkshake for some chick who, for all he knew, was related to the man who killed his cousin. Oh jeez. But then he spoke again, quickly. His words were reassuring. The blonde nodded and swallowed, relaxing. Good. This was good.
She forced a smile and moved on, trying not to feel so nervous. Clearly there was nothing to be anxious about right now. "Oh, it's definitely contagious. You won't be able to avoid it, especially if you hang with me for too long." She joked. "And your car's nice. But I prefer horses. It's still nice to look at, though!" Tally added. Lots of people were super sensitive about their cars. She couldn't really tell about Dean yet, but she could tell that the car was his baby. The thought made her smile.
Tally felt like she was grinning ear to ear when he spoke those last words. "Corny, a little. True? Definitely. Thank God you're not mad. Lots of people are mad at us. But he really didn't do it. I know he didn't." She spoke earnestly, because she knew in her heart it was true. Her father could never hurt another human being, and if Dean was willing to work with her to find out what would happen, then that's what she would do. "We can be the dynamic duo!" Tally joked, feeling at ease once again. Thank goodness.

I won't charge you for a trail ride. And I may not have a Mustang, but I'm sure you'll find something else that meets your approval." This could be interesting. Dean didn't really strike Tally as a horse person at all. Sure, he seemed big and bad now, but she thought that maybe it would be a different story when he was in her territory. She giggled at his remark about the car. "Really now? Is she the sensitive one or are you? I guess I'll have to make it up to her sometime." the blonde teased. From her spot next to the window Tally could catch a glimpse of the Impala. It was a really nice car. "I do like it- uh, her, though. A lot." she gestured to the parking lot.
Tally cracked her knuckles, a bit of a nervous habit. Working with Dean would be interesting, that was for sure. And she suspected he maybe had hidden motives, but hey. It's not like she was seeing anyone. It was true that she'd seen Bates as something more than just a friend. But nothing was set in stone. And she was liking Dean a lot so far. Stop. You're making things complicated. Just go with the flow and stop thinking so much! she chided herself and sat back in the seat, listening to Dean talk again.
I can't say he didn't do it. She raised her brow and was about to fire back when Dean continued. Tally shut her mouth and nodded, glad he was using some common sense and thinking things through. This could go well. "Alright, then. Let's do it." she stated, chewing her straw in thought. Detective work wasn't something she had really ever tried out, but it could work.
Tally raised a brow and stared back at him. "Who says that I'd play the role of Catwoman? I'd rather have the cape and cowl!" she joked back. "But, it we're playing the traditionalist roles here, I suppose I'd have to wear the tights." She felt the heat rise to her face as he looked her up and down and laughed nervously. "Oh, of course. Case information. Well, we could always go back to my place. But I will have you know that I'm a woman of standards. Well, I try to be, anyway. Don't know how long that'll work out with you around, God help me." Tally half joked. She didn't really know what she was getting herself into, but there was really only one way to find out.

I seemed to have gained it rather easily." Tally said with a wink. She twirled the straw in her hands and peeked into her cup, noting with sadness that she had consumed the whole milkshake. It was good while it lasted.
"Oh, yes. But at least you can admit it. Kudos!" Tally clapped her hands and grinned. "And I think it would be hard not to like it..." she took a peek at the car again. Uh, oh. The last thing she needed to do was become hooked on cars. "If you're a good girl I might let you ride in her..." Yeah, that'd be nice. I can see you driving me around. She thought to herself and was about to respond before he started again. "And if you're a bad girl I might let you drive." Holy shit. Tally felt her eyes widen. It's a good thing she didn't have the milkshake anymore because surely she'd spit it out everywhere. "Well, we'll have to see how things turn out, then." she mumbled dumbly. She didn't really know how to respond to a statement like that. Tally could definitely could see now why Dean got what he wanted.
The blonde changed the topic again before she could make a fool of herself. "Ah, yes. The stilettos and the bike. They make it worth it for sure." she grinned.
"Great, I'm glad we could come to an understanding. Tally stood up then, hoping they were done here. "So, you wanna come back home with me? I guess that'd be a good place to start." She smiled back at Dean. What could she say, that smile was infectious. Hopefully her father wasn't around. Or anyone else for that matter. This could get interesting.
