"Let's just say I have previous experience in that area." Tristan said with a chuckle. "And if your boss or a customer asks, tell them you're spreading incense or potpurri. No one cares about that. And there isn't an open flame so no one can get mad," he elaborated. Addie proceeded to joke around about the policies.
"Addie, if anyone ever tries something like that, forget the letter opener. Statistically, it's more likely to be used against you. Call 911, spray the mace, and run. Okay?" He hated talking about things like this, but her safety was too important to brush off.
"I didn't really have either. We knew the neighbors on either side of the ranch, but they were too far away to be close friends. I played outside when I had time or I worked with the animals. Everyone works on a ranch." Tristan said. It was true, though. On a ranch, if you didn't do your share of work, you didn't eat. That's probably why his parents' ranch was so successful.
He laughed at her. "Nope, no business card. You do have a cell phone, don't you? We can just trade numbers," he suggested. "And I better be number one speed dial."After the exchange, a sensation of satisfaction overcame him. "In case you weren't sure, Addie, that was me asking you out on a date." Tristan smiled at the pretty blonde. Sometimes he wasn't sure he was speaking English, what with him going off to la-la land so much.
"More work would be nice. I trust you'll help spread the word?" he teased with a grin.

From ghostbuster to vet tech?" Addie teased. "Ah, good excuse. The place could use some of that anyway. I don't know that my boss would care, he's kinda out there himself. But I think that maybe the customers would. So, potpourri it is!" She chuckled. If she lost business for the motel it could be bad- the place was probably on the verge of closing, anyway.
Addie listened to his advice and, seeing that he was serious, nodded in agreement. "You got it, boss. I will always have the phone nearby. Here's to hoping that I'll never be put in that situation." she crossed her fingers.
"I'm sure it was hard work. But I'll bet it was a lot of fun, too. At least I would have had fun. Sounds like my idea of a fun time." Addie grinned. She wondered what would have happened if she'd grown up like that. She would have definitely had a horse before this point. And she probably wouldn't be here now. But still, it was fun to think about.
"Oh, yeah. Here, you can just put your number in and I'll text or call later." She fished her phone out of her pocket and handed it to him. "But of course you'll be number one! First friend, remember?" Addie laughed. And it was a date. Addie felt herself blush again and grinned happily. "Great. It's a date, then." The blonde couldn't believe that she had been so lucky already. Tristan seemed like a really cool guy and she was gonna go out with him sometime. She was in a bit of a disbelief, but a happy one.
"Of course I'll spread the word! I'll betcha you'll have clients in nooo time." Addie hoped for his sake that she was right. In a small town like this it was hard to find an in. But once you were in, you were in for life. She was sure that Tristan would have no problem finding people who could use his services.

"Oh no, we called ourselves the Ghostfacers. We don't bust anything." Tristan pulled a poker face until he couldn't hold it any longer. His laughter seemed to echo all around them, even out in the open. "Customers love sweet smelling stuff. You could add lavender and chammomile, they are calming herbs." He suggested with a smile.
He loved that she took his warning seriously. It made him feel effective. Like he could get the job done. "If I could toast to that, I would. But I'm all out of Sprite," he said, trying to lighten up the mood a little. He raised a hand and pretended to clink a glass. His smile was a mile wide as he gazed at the blonde standing next to him.
Tristan put his number in her phone, adding a star to the end so that she would remember he was important. Hopefully, she wouldn't even have a chance to forget. "Great. It's a date, then," she said with a smile and a rosy blush. By now his cheeks hurt from all the grinning he'd done, and it would be worse before he left. He was still in a little bit of denial. I can't believe she said yes, he stuttered in his mind. Next, an exclaimation: I can't believe she said yes!
"Don't spread the word too much! I'd still like to have some free time. You know, for doggie play dates and movies. Things like that." Tristan said. He enjoyed seeing the blush color her face. She was a very expressive person, and it never gets old watching the emotions dance across her features.

She laughed too. "Good one. You had me going there for a sec." Thank God he has a sense of humor! I couldn't stand another stick in the mud. she thought to herself. The last "relationship" Addie had was with a guy who was a bit older than she was and was a of a control freak who had no sense of humor. You can imagine how long that lasted. Having someone that could make her laugh was a must.
"Lavender and chamomile. Got it. You should give the owner some tips. He could use them." she frowned. As far as she knew, the old guy had owned the motel since he was about thirty. It had been in his family since it was built. Which somehow made things a bit creepier, in her opinion.
Addie fake toasted him back. "A Sprite would be nice now." she muttered, glancing up at the sun which had peeked out behind the clouds. Dot made her way over and rubbed her head on Addie's shoulder, trying to get a fly off. "Bully." Addie muttered, pushing her off and rubbing the mares head affectionately. "So, if we were to ever find a horse tall enough for you, we should go on a trail ride sometime. I think it would be fun!" she suggested, looking at Tristan and grinning. She just couldn't imagine not being able to ride. She made it her personal goal to find a big enough horse right then and there. Surely there were some freakishly tall ones out there somewhere.
She took her phone back and sent a quick text. "Alrighty, you've got my number now." Addie grinned and stuck her phone back in her pocket. "If you say so. I'd like for you to have some free time too. Maybe I'll reconsider that second job." the blonde mused with a smile.

Tristan enjoyed laughing. Who doesn't like a good laugh? Its enjoyability was greatly impacted by the present company, an impact for the better. He chuckled again as she acknowledged his joke. Ghostfacers was a hilarious web show at one point, a spin-off from a popular paranormal television show. One of which Addie must not have heard. Tristan realized then that even though he just met her, Addie is a genuine article. She is truthful, fun, humorous, and as an added bonus she's totally gorgeous. What more could a guy ask for, right?
You could tell she wasn't sure whether or not he meant what he said about the herbs. "Seriously. Lavender and chamomile. Can't do anything better than that," he reiterated. "Maybe I should have a talk with this guy. I don't exactly approve of him leaving you alone in charge of the motel." he said darkly. "Uh, not that you can't handle it," he backtracked quickly, "Just that it isn't safe with an open murder investigation going on. For all we know the creep is still on the streets." A statement that had been heard and repeated many times lately. It never failed to have a dark impact on Tristan.
"Maybe when we're done here we can go get refreshments," he said absently, his mind now wandering. He hoped to get more work soon, but if that didn't pan out he might have to settle for some minimum wage burger flipping job. Temporarily, of course. He had to have an income if he was going to be dating. No self-respecting man didn't at least offer to pay for his date. If she felt more confident covering it herself, then that was her choice, even if he didn't like it. Tristan's mind meandered back to the present as Dot rubbed on Addie. The blonde pushed the mare away and then rubbed her head. "Of course we should go trail riding. This country looks beautiful. I can't imagine how different it will be on horseback." he said. "And they don't have to be huge, just big enough, with a stocky build like you see in the ranch Quarter Horses. That's what I rode last." He made sure she knew this so that hopefully an opportunity would present itself, and if it did they would be fully able to take advantage of it.
Tristan smiled when Addie proposed postponing a second job. I can't believe she'd do that to spend time with me...

"Alrighty then. I'll be sure to add it to my shopping list." she grinned but silently mused where she would get them. Google will be my new best friend. she joked to herself. The blonde listened to Tristan as he continued. "Uh, not that you can't handle it."She spoke quickly- she wasn't one to get defensive about being able to stand up for herself. "Oh, no. If you wanna talk to him, be my guest! The less face to face contact I have with him, the better to be completely honest. The last time I talked to him, I almost got myself in trouble with my smart mouth." Addie chuckled at the memory. She couldn't even remember specifically what was said, but she let her attitude get the best of her and her boss hadn't exactly liked that. From then on out she tried to have little interaction with him.
The blonde crossed her arms and bit her lip, thinking. The thought that there could be some lunatic out and about was more than slightly discomforting. "Yeah, I understand where you're coming from. It's not exactly safe right now, if Montgomery really didn't do it." It would figure I come across a town I actually like and it might not even be safe. Addie thought to herself.
Refreshments. That sounded nice. So did the prospect of spending more time with Tristan. "Sure, that would be great." Addie grinned, but noted that he didn't seem all there when he suggested drinks. "You okay?" she asked, furrowing her brow. He was probably just thinking. Like she always did.
Upon his agreeing on the trail ride, Addie smiled again. "Great. I haven't even been out on a ride with Dot yet, only a test drive in the arena, so to speak. But I'm looking forward to it."

Tristan was pleased when she agreed to go buy some herbs and try it. He suggested a few online stores since he had no clue what shops were in town. Note to self: explore the new town! he thought. The pretty girl was fine with him talking to her boss, thank goodness. Although she says she has a smart mouth he couldn't picture it at all.
"Yes, especially if Mr. Montgomery is innocent, but even if he isn't. He's home on bail, isn't he?" Tristan said. Many scenarios ran through his head, anything that he could imagine and more. Most of them revolved around Addie and a shadowed figure, presumably the murderer or just a sketchy character. None of which he liked or looked forward to. He did however enjoy what led up to one of those shady figures, and that was Addie- in his jacket with his arm around her, walking down the sidewalk of the movie theater.
Addie agreed that refreshments would be nice. "Oh, yes I'm fine, sorry. Just thinking. I get a little lost when my mind takes over. Forgive me," he explained. It was touching that this girl, whom he'd just met today, noticed and cared enough to ask if he was okay when he got a little spacey. His heart immediately warmed to her.
"We'll have to fix that!" he said. "If you've only ridden her once you're not getting your money's worth." Tristan joked. In all seriousness, he'd considered leasing a horse, but he hadn't found one that suited him. Now he'll have to renew his search so that he can spend more time with this pretty lady.

A lot from what I hear. Is it bad that I feel sorry for him?Call me crazy, but I don't feel like he did it." The blonde stated, braiding Dot's mane in thought. Her whole life, Addie had always been able to sympathize with people. She had always been a people person, and was fairly good at determining the hidden motives of people. Or at least she liked to think so. And something told her that Mr. Montgomery didn't really do it. But she had already made a promise to keep out of it. And Addie would try, she really would.
"Oh, it's okay. I get the same way, no worries. Happens more often than not, unfortunately." Addie chuckled. Her grandmother had always been telling her about how she constantly seemed to have her head in the clouds. But the blonde couldn't help it. She liked to space out. Sometimes it was better than just keeping her mind on track 24/7. That got to be a bit taxing on the brain. So long as people didn't say she fit the dumb blonde stereotype, Addie was cool with being that way.
"Too true! I should be getting what I pay for." Addie joked, ruffling the mares mane again. But, if she were going to be honest, the mare had been more than enough already. This was her first horse, and that was worth more to her than anything. If she weren't afraid of sounding totally corny, she would have said that out loud. Instead, she kept her mouth shut and grinned as she looked over the mare. "I still can't believe she'll be mine. I mean, I've never had a horse before, so this is kind of a big deal for me. In case you couldn't tell." Addie poked fun at herself.

The blonde confirmed bail for Mr.Montgomery, and from what she'd heard it had cost the family a pretty penny. He didn't doubt it. The man was accused of murder, and his family was well off. What a great opportunity for the government to extort money from the public. "I don't know him or his family, but I always try to trust my gut. If you don't feel like he did it then he probably didn't." Tristan said. He'd always been a people person, and a rather intuitive one at that. He could read people pretty well just by their body language.
Addie forgave him for his trip to La-La Land. She explained that was common for her as well and that she'd always been a little spacey. It seemed to be a coping mechanism for Tristan. Whenever something was a little too much for him to handle, he drifted off to relax. Nobody yet had called him out on it, or even seemed concerned, except for this pretty blonde. Most people assumed he was of the "tall, muscle-y, and stupid" variety. Tristan doesn't like stereotypes.
She joked about getting her money's worth and Tristan absorbed the happy vibes in the air. She joked around, but there was an underlying seriousness in her. She played with the mare, doting on her. She expressed her inability to believe that Dot would ever be hers. Dot was her first horse. She tried to make fun of herself. "It's really a special bond, the one you have with your first horse." Tristan told her. "My first horse wasn't even mine. Bandit was Dad's cow horse. He was like a guard dog around me, but also a babysitter. I got to ride him all over the property, except when Dad had to go out on the round ups." He said. Quietly, Tristan told her about his first horse. "I still remember it like it was yesterday. But he passed away about ten years ago. He was getting on in age and Dad decided it was only fair to end his pain. Still miss him," he admitted.

So, he took sort of the same stance as her. That was a good thing. "Yeah, I always go on gut feeling. Some people say that's a bad thing, but I think it's the best. No better person to trust on things when it comes to yourself, I suppose." she said thoughtfully. Despite her grandmother always telling Addie that she was spacey, she always supported her granddaughter when it came to her instincts. The blonde supposed that's why she was the way she was. Her grandma had always been good with stuff like that.
The young woman stared at Dot for a moment. Her current owner had told her that the mare was willing to do anything you asked of her, even going so far as describing her like a giant dog. Which made Addie all the more willing to agree on a leasing agreement. Hunter/Jumper equation was supposedly the mares specialty, but Addie had yet to test that out. If she was going to be honest, she didn't have much experience in that at all. Back home all she'd ever done was leisure riding. Her grandmother didn't have the money for extensive lessons so basically all she'd done was ride around in a ring for a couple of hours and call it a day. Addie grimaced at the realization. "I'm gonna have my hands full, I think. She's big into the whole hunter/jumper equation scene and I really don't know too much about that." The blonde stated, sticking her hands in her pockets and leaning on the fence again.
She listened to Tristan talk about his first horse. "Aww, sounds like he was a good one. I think first horses have to be." Addie stated, thinking. "Especially with kids. Precious cargo and what not." she remembered all the ponies and small horses she had been stuck riding at the farm in California. At the time she had been non too pleased with them, but looking back it was for the best. They were able to teach her much more about riding at her age than a horse like Dot would have been able to.
