ETC.: As soon as you meet Nick, you notice how innocent he appears, due to his young features. But if you manage to get close to him, you discover he has an aura of knowing about him. To put it simply, he just...knows. People hesitate to lie to or double cross him, for they fear he'll be able to see through their facade. There's no pulling a fast one on this observant young man. As you get over his wondrous tendency, you find the true kid deep within him. Mason may be 21, but it's difficult to tell behind his enthusiastic, friendly, happy personality. Yes, he loves having fun, and will let nothing get in his way while he pursues that amusement. Except work of course - he just so happens to love working at the stables, where he can be close to the horses. Unfortunately, he does normally let work run his life. To him, horses were all he had for so long that he owes it to them to give them his all. Mason is filled with wanderlust and a longing for something bigger and better in life. His real goal is to be an author, like his father. His family shuns him mostly, due to his lack of interest in medicine.
When he's not off working, hanging out with his horse and freelance writing, he's very friendly and trusting to everyone he comes across. If he knows you in general, than he has a better sense of you. Trust is instantly thrown towards the kindest person, until proven otherwise. That's just how assuming Mason is. Trusting until given a reason not to be. When you are on his good side—which is anyone who is nice to him in the slightest—then you will be bombarded by a sweet, chivalrous and enthusiastic equestrian. If you get on his bad side, he doesn't do much. He simply ignores whoever he dislikes. But if he ever happens to catch a man hitting a woman or someone physically or verbally attacking a friend, he will be the first to jump in on the defensive. Mason is a good guy, and the more you are with him, the more his laid-back side will emerge.
IT'S ALL IN THE PAST.

HISTORY: Ronald and Miranda Lucas married at an age later than most couples, but the two didn't hesitate to jump into the baby-making business. The happy couple was excited to have kids and expand the family. They were not wealthy, but they were not poor. They were content in their living situation, and they thought for sure that one child would fit in immediately with no definite changes to their lifestyles. That's how it always works, right? Wrong. When Miranda received her first ultrasound, boy was the couple in for a surprise. Twins. Twins that would later become Emily and Patrick Hunter. When the twins came into the world, everything was turned upside down in the couples' lives. They weren't ready for parenthood.
The twins were terrible. They got into everything, never slept and caused hell. But somehow, the couple managed to get through it. When they turned 7, Ronald published his first book, pulling money in for the family and causing a few nights of pure happiness. While celebrating, an accident happened. Miranda started vomiting all day, feeling terrible and gaining weight. Clearly, she was pregnant again. This time, with an accident child. They decided to keep the kid and welcome it into the family, much to the displeasure of the twins. When Mason was born, he was everything his siblings were not. He was a quiet kid. He slept a lot. He didn't cry. He liked to be left alone. And his parents immediately grew more attached than expected.
His siblings grew jealous quickly, but their brilliant grades and excellence in sports thrilled their parents, often leaving Mason to deal with a babysitter. When Mason turned 4 and his babysitter was watching him, she showed him pictures of her horses. And from then on, he was intrigued. He begged for a horse for two years before his parents agreed to buy him a horse and get him riding lessons. He never knew what a pony was - his first horse was 16.2 hands of raw Thoroughbred. Despite taking some falls, breaking some bones and injuring himself a lot, Mason loved it. His family didn't agree with it much, but he never was like any of them. His father was the most similar to him, only because he was an author - Mason's dream job.
His siblings eventually went off to medical school while Mason took college classes throughout his high school career at a local community college. He got a job at a local barn, found the horse of his dreams and eventually started freelance writing after receiving a degree that he didn't really think was necessary. And now, he is just trying to figure out his life with his horse and his writing career.
